Aug 27 at 15:34 comment added James Mathai @YonKuma This is OP's comment and I think almost everyone is on the right track. "If assemblable is a word then perhaps that's what I'm looking for. I tried to google assembly-able but can't find any good match. But the assemblable has some definition I think what I'm looking for.
Aug 27 at 15:18 comment added YonKuma @JamesMathai Yes, but I believe that the OP has asked the wrong question. I think they are looking for a term of art that means that a product is to be assembled by its purchaser. They guessed incorrectly that an adjective version of "assemble" would be the correct term of art, and asked for that instead of what they were really looking for
Aug 27 at 2:41 comment added James Mathai @YonKuma From the title itself itself it is clear that OP is looking for an adjective. The discussion is on this and not how to assemble IKEA s modular or flat pack furniture.

Aug 26 at 20:19 comment added YonKuma I agree with Lambie. While "assemblable" is the correct answer to this question as posed, I believe the answer that the OP is actually looking for based on their elaborating comments is "requires assembly" or "assembly required".
Aug 26 at 19:47 comment added James Mathai @ChenLiYong The term used by IKEA is "modular furniture" and "modular kitchen". This is the term for furniture that can be disassembled and assembled. ikea.com/in/en/…

Aug 26 at 16:21 comment added Lambie assemblable is misleading here and anyway, technical literature says: requires assembly.

Mar 11, 2022 at 3:49 comment added Chen Li Yong @KateBunting I see. Thanks for the explanation!
Mar 9, 2022 at 16:45 comment added Kate Bunting No, it's a verb, but assembly is a noun (and therefore not suitable for making such a word).
Mar 9, 2022 at 9:55 comment added Chen Li Yong @KateBunting yes my spellchecker also highlight this as wrong. but it's okay I think. Btw is assemble actually a noun?
Mar 9, 2022 at 9:54 comment added Chen Li Yong @OldBrixtonian yes I already look at it. It reaffirms that assemblable is indeed acceptablable 😂 Thanks!
Mar 9, 2022 at 8:38 comment added Kate Bunting Assemblable is an uncommon word (my spellchecker doesn't recognise it!) but words ending in '-able' normally start with a verb, not a noun.
Mar 9, 2022 at 4:39 comment added Old Brixtonian @Chen Li Yong: It's fine :-) Did you look at that link? People there seem to think 'assemblable' is acceptable. (Or acceptablable!)
Mar 9, 2022 at 4:30 comment added Chen Li Yong @OldBrixtonian yes, it was to generalize things. In my native language, the term for assemblable for things like furniture and hydraulic system, and many other things that can be assembled, is the same. But now I see that that is misleading in this kind of question after I saw a comment mentioning "flat-pack furniture", which certainly can't be applied to hydraulic system. Sorry.
Mar 9, 2022 at 4:18 comment added Old Brixtonian A hydraulic system? I thought we were at Ikea! Try here
Mar 9, 2022 at 4:02 comment added Chen Li Yong @stangdon yes. I never read the word assemblable, and did not show up when I look up about assembly-able. I think that's what I'm looking for. Thanks.
Mar 9, 2022 at 4:01 comment added Chen Li Yong @OldBrixtonian thank you for the reply. If we're talking about a hydraulic system, is "hydraulic system for self-assembly" considered proper usage for the term?
Mar 9, 2022 at 3:58 comment added Chen Li Yong @Dan my language is Indonesian. If assemblable is a word then perhaps that's what I'm looking for. I tried to google assembly-able but can't find any good match. But the assemblable has some definition I think what I'm looking for.
Mar 9, 2022 at 3:32 comment added stangdon I actually don't see a problem with assemblable, and it is out there in live usage: google.com/search?tbm=bks&q=assemblable
Mar 9, 2022 at 2:45 comment added Old Brixtonian I don't think we have an adjective meaning "assemblable". It's often called "flat-pack furniture" or "furniture for self-assembly."
Mar 9, 2022 at 2:26 comment added Dan Would it be something like 组装拆卸 in your language? Maybe it is assemblable 可组装 ?
Mar 9, 2022 at 2:24 comment added Dan Is that the exact text? Because "assembly-able" seems like it should mean "can be made into an assembly." Anyway, what is your question?
