Jan 4, 2023 at 20:26 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @Gotube If no-body else is who are you commenting. Sorry if you don't like the fact and still all questions, including all how-to questions end with question marks. If that doesn't work for you again, why not explain your doubts about English?
Jan 2, 2023 at 6:38 | comment | added | gotube♦ | @RobbieGoodwin Again, if you want to have a site-wide discussion about this point, English Language Learners Meta is the place, not here. Nobody else is reading these comments. Many people will read it on English Language Learners Meta.
Jan 1, 2023 at 21:11 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube Sorry but no, David Siegel did no such thing, above or anywhere else. Sorry you thought you were being asked to change a rule; you were not. You were asked whether you were in a position to ask whoever laid down that rule to change it. If you difference, please say so. I think your personal interpretation of rules you failed to cite seems designed to prevent discussion, not to promote anything. Who thinks gotube has a point worth making, please say so.
Jan 1, 2023 at 7:40 | comment | added | gotube♦ | @RobbieGoodwin David Siegel ♦ above told you. And no, I can't change that rule, and I wouldn't want to. Answers are for answering questions, not arguing with other users.
Dec 31, 2022 at 21:09 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube Really? Thanks for saying that, which sadly I don't remember another mod telling me before… Either way, are you in a position to ask whoever laid down that rule to change it?
Dec 31, 2022 at 17:15 | comment | added | gotube♦ | @RobbieGoodwin Directly addressing anyone other than the OP doesn't belong in an answer. Another Mod has already told you the same. That is why I removed that content. You are still free to add it as a comment on that user's answer.
Dec 26, 2022 at 20:38 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube Please say why you don't like "(Quite separately and almost equally importantly, since this is ELL, questions end with question marks; a question ends with a question mark. Does that difference between singular and plural make sense to you?) Is that because your interpretation of SE rules is that Members having Posted an Answer or stated a relevant fact, must refrain from adding anything helpful?
Dec 26, 2022 at 20:37 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube Sorry; you've made it clear by everything you've Posted here that you are not at all "just here to moderate". Rather, you have chosen to pick your own personal fight about something most Members know full well is outside the remit of any Moderator. Please either tell us why you object to "To be brutally clear and simple all questions, because they are questions, necessarily end with question marks. That’s not all but it is much of what defines a question" or withdraw your unsupported 'objection.'
Dec 22, 2022 at 5:13 | comment | added | gotube♦ | @Robbie SE is clear that comments belong in the comment section, not in answers. Each answer stands alone, and does not require that people reading it have already read through the comment threads on all other questions. If you think I'm wrong about that, feel free to ask a question about it in English Language Learners Meta, which is the correct place for that discussion, not the comments on an answer about a different topic.
Dec 22, 2022 at 1:03 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube Sorry, if you or SE believes that, both of you need to grow up and your being a Moderator is no defence. Could that be more clear? I thank Goodness this is a public chat, about which everyone can speak… and I ask any and everyone to speak… Whoever has read the whole thread, please Post your view…
Dec 22, 2022 at 0:41 | comment | added | gotube♦ | @Robbie I'm just here to moderate, not participate in this discussion. If you want to address Tanner directly, the only correct place to do so is in the comments below theirs. Further, tagging a user with @ in the body of an answer does not notify that user, so they won't even see that you've said anything. If you'd like to know my thoughts about debate, create a chat room for us, or lemme know and I'll create one.

Dec 21, 2022 at 23:47 | comment | added | David Siegel | I would say that an answer can and sometimes should refer to other answers. Expressions similar to "As the Answer by UserX states..." or "Contrary to the assertion in the answer by UserY..." But an answer should not normally directly address other users.
Dec 21, 2022 at 23:38 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube After that, please dismount your high horse and recognise that sometimes, Users lay themselves open to being addressed in Answers. Is that something you deny?
Dec 21, 2022 at 23:33 | comment | added | Robbie Goodwin | @gotube Please at least expand your ideas about debate.

Dec 21, 2022 at 19:20 | comment | added | gotube♦ | Robbie, please don't use your answers to comment to other users. That's what the comment space is for. Your comment to Tanner is still in your edit history of this question if you care to copy-pasted any part of it into the comment thread on my answer.
