I've heard people said if you want to ask someone how to say something in English.
You should say How do you say something in English or How can I say something in English is this real and why?

  • 'How to do something' is not really a proper question. That is why you should go for 'How do you do something' or 'How can I do something'. – eddyP23 Jan 5 '18 at 8:21
  • but how to do something is widely used, it's still not a proper way to say in modern English? – Ives Jan 5 '18 at 9:05
  • I think it is used when you are not directly asking anything, but rather as a rhetorical question in titles or in sentences like this: 'I am wondering, how to do this' – eddyP23 Jan 5 '18 at 9:26
  • How to say ____ in English is a statement, not a question. To make a question in English, you have to change the word order and/or the phrasing, like How do you say ____ in English?
