I know a title sometimes needs zero article, e.g., "He is elected president of the U.S." and "She was sworn in as president." But when writing this sentence below, is the definite article needed?

As (the) president of the company, I am making a few announcements.

This is what M.Vince says about the use of articles before titles like "president" in his Advanced Language Practice:

In the sentence As (the) president of the company, I am making a few announcements the title is post-modified. And so, the is more likely (personally, I'd say the president of the company), but, as a matter of fact, not essential.
