a) You were very close to him hence you could show your talent to him and got promoted.

b) You were very close to him hence you had been able to show your talent to him and got promoted.

a) is closer: "You were very close to him, hence you could show your talent to him and get promoted."

    You might prefer to use the word "demonstrate" rather than "show". – neogeek Feb 22 at 9:24
  • I agree with your word changes but I would change the punctuation slightly. I think a semicolon before the word "hence" and a comma afterwards would be better. – Mixolydian Apr 1 at 19:14
