Sentence :- She said I could borrow her camera as long as I..... Care Of it

Take / Took / would take.

We had this question answered in class and I think my teacher's answer was incorrect. ( as he states that only took is right )

  • what was the teacher's answer, and why did you think it incorrect? – David Siegel Apr 13 at 15:16
  • There appears to be something missing in your sentence apart from the multiple-choice answer. I suspect it's the word care. – Robusto Apr 13 at 15:18
  • Yes, sorry it's missing 'care' after the choices. Editing... – Noor Nizar Apr 13 at 21:24
  • @DavidSiegel the teacher's answer is took. But for me they seem that they all could go. But I'd personally prefer to use would take. – Noor Nizar Apr 13 at 21:27
  • None of the possible answers are wrong. They are all grammatical. – Jason Bassford Apr 13 at 22:01

She said I could borrow her camera as long as I took care of it.

seems most natural to me of the three alternatives in the question. I would be more inclined to say

She said that I could borrow her camera as long as I took care of it.

but then my personal style tends toward the wordy.

Using "take" simnple does not agree in tense. "would take" is possible, but I think awkward.
