Here is a sentence from a drift race game's description:

After having controlled your car’s tune, you can start throwing it in hard and start riding every wall you see.

I found the following meaning of the word throw in the Merrian-Webster's dictionary:

to put (an automobile) in a different gear especially quickly or suddenly

However, I am not sure if the above meaning fits the context.

    These cars use gears, they are not automatic gear cars. To throw it in hard may be referring changing gears. – Lambie May 13 '19 at 20:23
