While doing the task, I came across an interesting question.
She spent some time in Asprey’s considering the latest slimline watches, a gold statue of a tiger with jade eyes and a Faberge egg. She regretted that her close friend, Tina, was not with her, she needed her advice badly. From there she walked to a next/nearby shop which despite a determined salesman who showed her almost everything the shop had to offer, she still left empty-handed.
To me, nearby sounds better, but I can't get it why next is not an option. My best guess is that the case is in an indefinite article before nearby/next. I would have chosen next if there was 'the' before it. Again, just because it sounds better that way.
To tell the truth, it doesn't really suits me to 'feel' it. I want to understand the reason.
I'd be absolutely grateful if someone helped me out.
