Scenario 1 Suppose that a customer has ordered some things online. He is now in your store to pick them up. The order has 100 boxes of cookies. Then, you check his order form and get them for him. After bringing him 90 boxes, this is what you are going to say to him.

(1a) There are ten more to come.

(1b) There are ten more coming.

Scenario 2 Suppose that you are running a chess club and you want more people to join it. I have received some applications for getting into the club. This is what you are going to say to your club members.

(2a) Soon, there will be twenty more people to join us.

(2b) Soon, there will be twenty more people joining us.

Which verb form is correct?

1
  • There is a difference between "...ten more to join" and "...ten more are joining". The former shows a little bit of uncertainty but the later is surer than the former.
