Difference between “faster than” and “as fast as”

I want to say that, speed-of-A = (7/4)* speed-of-B. The two sentences that I can think of are: A runs 7/4 times faster than B. A runs 7/4 times as fast as B. I'm told that 1st version is incorrect. ...
