There are different types of people who are interested in their own language, the largest three groups of which are probably the pedants, the people who find their own language fascinating, and the people learning other languages. There’s many an overlap, but nevertheless I think they’re distinct from each other.

I was once only a member of the first, but thanks to becoming a member of the third I’m increasingly a member of the second, and (in a way) a reforming member of the first.
